Hilliard was born in a small town in Ontario - Galetta - on October 29, 1932.
Hilliard was predeceased by his Mom and Dad, Alda Schlievert and Elisha Brydges, his brother Bobby and sister Darlene. He is also predeceased by his wife Betty of 58 years and his son Allan. Hilliard met his wife Jean of 11 years who made sure that Hilliard was well looked after in his final years. He is also survived by his children, Carolyn (Gary), Brenda (Renold), Colin and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Hilliard joined the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) in 1950. In 1956 Hilliard and his family travelled to Metz, France with two daughters and returned in the early 60s with two daughters and two sons. Dad was stationed in Ottawa until the early 70s when he transferred to Winnipeg where he remained.
During Hilliard’s retirement years he enjoyed golfing, curling, and building houses.
Dad was a gentle, caring man with a wonderful sense of humour. He was always willing to lend a hand and when the work was done, a game of crokinole or euchre followed.
